Aussies, We Are...

Every Aussie city's population is becoming more transient, one of the results of a shrinking planet, brought on by more accessible worldwide transport and communications.

We are learning to deal with visitors and migrants as we begin to understand the value they bring to our society. This doesn't mean just being actively open and friendly, it also means being mature enough to hold back, to grow friendships at a natural pace and not give ourselves so cheaply.

We are becoming more aware of the issues of other countries and how we affect them, such as through what we buy- whether it be petrol, diamonds (yes I just saw 'Blood Diamond'), food, clothing, electronics, household items.

We are somewhat sheltered here in Melbourne and Australia, but many of us also have a keen interest in overseas happenings. Afterall, most Australians have their roots overseas, and white settlement only began just over 200 years ago. Many Aussies have of course travelled outside Australia too.

Wherever you are on the planet, Happy Australia Day!!

A New Beginning

Happy New Year my super-awesome readers! :)

It's no rest for the wicked here in Oz. Since I landed 2 weeks ago I've...

1) Caught up with the all-important family and some good mates
2) Managed to get a couple of job offers
3) Danced as much as I could, and joined a dance troupe to boot!
4) Planned to join Tai Chi classes
5) Gotten my life more or less sorted

So life is going well here. The weather's a bit crazy- we've had snow (yes SNOW!) and raging bushfires within the space of a week. But other than that I feel I've made the right choice moving. BRING IT ON!!!
